Last Night’s Stroll

When we went for a stroll last night, we made a stop at the Mare Island gazebo. We started to climb its stairs and found candles. They lined the outside of each step on the gazebo staircase. Some were covered by hurricane glasses. All were unlit. My first thoughts: Left over from a party or wedding? Forgotten from a memorial service? Another island photo shoot? Spirit contacting? When we were partway up the staircase, we stopped because we saw in the gazebo’s center a table covered with bottles of alcohol. Suddenly a guy hurried out of a dark, parked car. He let us know the decorated, well-stocked gazebo was part of his proposal plan! He was waiting for word that his escorted girlfriend was arriving, so he could light the candles to make that romantic first impression. We wished him luck and left. We later passed by that area once more on our walk. The gazebo was dark and his car parked in front. Still waiting.
